Facilitation

“The facilitator’s job is to support everyone to do their best thinking and practice. To do this, the facilitator encourages full participation, promotes mutual understanding and cultivates shared responsibility. By supporting everyone to do their best thinking, a facilitator enables group members to search for inclusive solutions and build sustainable agreements” – Kaner

TMS’ Approach to Facilitation

TMS regularly guides clients through challenging organisational discussions, new contexts and setting organisational direction or change. TMS’ team is experienced in managing the dynamics between group members, but also optimising interactions in a workshop setting to ensure productive outcomes and clear action plans.

As experienced facilitators for a variety of government and industry forums, TMS focus on the following aspects:

  • Ensuring all participants are engaged and have an opportunity to contribute to the conversation
  • The environment is open and seeks to provide a neutral environment for exploring different views
  • Managing the emotions, responses and energy with sensitivity to demonstrate understanding and guide the group to consensus
  • The conversations and outputs are effectively synthesised to facilitate agreement of the recommendations and next steps.

TMS’ Facilitation Techniques

TMS facilitators create a safe and supportive environment in which they actively challenge the group’s view through positive inquiry, clarify and test group assumptions, and introduce new thinking. When TMS provides an independent facilitator to guide the process this allows all participants to be fully engaged in the discussions at hand.
